When a Building Project Goes Wrong

Construction projects do not always proceed as planned.  Changes to scope, disagreements over variations, delays or payment disputes can quickly create tension between property owners, contractors and project teams.

Where commercial issues arise on a construction project, obtaining independent advice can help bring structure to the situation and prevent matters escalating further,

Common issues on construction projects

Problems arise where:

  • variations are not property documented
  • additional unforeseen work is required
  • the scope of work changes during construction
  • costs increase unexpectedly
  • programme delays occur
  • parties disagree on the value of works completed

Without clear commercial management, these situations can lead to disputes between the parties involved.

Independent commercial advice

A quantity surveyor can help clarify the commercial position on a project by reviewing variations, assessing payment claims and analysing the contractual position.

Independent advice can often help resolve issues before they develop into formal disputes.
